Dear Family,
The big news this week is that we visited “PARADISE.” Yes indeed. This is how it happened. I made arrangements with Wendell and The Gables for us to pick Wendell up about 11:30 to go out to lunch. We met Mark at Dominos Pizza to follow him to our lunch destination. Kami joined us in our caravan with more things to go with the pizza. Then off we went out of Brigham City on the exit you take to go to Logan. However after a few minutes we took the exit to Mantua and soon we were parked in one of the driveways to this beautiful house with a garage attached to the right side of the house and another garage and storage building separate from the house to the left of the house. We were totally impressed.
Yes, we were finally seeing Mark and Kami's new home. The one they came by through a little miracle. They took us inside and immediately we knew that this was NOT the average home. It is a beautifully “added upon” pioneer home originating in early 1800 and it has every convenience of storage space, closets, lots of cupboards in the upstairs kitchen and downstairs kitchen, plenty of bedrooms for their family of seven, plus a large fun area downstairs. Down there is a huge food storage area with even a root cellar easily big enough to store a full years supply of produce from the garden. Yes there is a nice big garden area outside with water rights (no buying culinary water).
Our tour was made even more amazing by the redecorating they have done to paint every bedroom, giving the children their choice of color and decorating their part of their room with their own hobbies. They have changed ceiling heights, remove old wall paper, adding new carpeting and even put up pictures. It truly looks like they have lived there for a long time, not since just a couple of weeks before Christmas.
Our tour was halted for a little while to have our yummy Pizza meal and then we returned to our tour of this amazing home and learning of how the different pioneer families added this part and that part. One of the owners even converted the big separate garage into a storage facility where Mark and Kami have stored all their big equipment, etc. That building even has an attic to store even more. Those pioneers really knew how to build strong useful homes and Mark and Kami really know how to fix it up to meet today's needs. That's why we felt like we were in “Paradise.”
Wendell enjoyed himself so much. He took all the upstairs in with enthusiasm, ate lunch with many comments on how good it was and how much he loved to be with the family. He didn't even say he was ready to leave any time (which he usually does). He felt like it was “Paradise” also.
The patience and faith that Mark & Kami had that the Lord would help and guide them paid off for them over the two/plus years they were struggling to decide what to do when his job in Vernal went awry. They decided to come to Brigham City where they accepted our offer to live in our basement. They managed to make the the best of living there for a year until they could find a place to rent. That place was an unusual finding in an apartment built in the old Cooley Hospital building. That was an adventure for them too. But now their faith has brought them to “Paradise” and we are so happy for them. Besides that, they like it so well they plan on staying there forever which makes me glad because that is pretty close to us.

 It all started when my Uncle Delbert called my parents on the phone to ask if he could bring his Marimbaphone to our house for a few months since he was painting some of the rooms in his house and he didn't want it to get all dusty.  Vida Swenson, my mom, turned to her husband, Alfred and asked him what he thought.  He quickly agreed to the  plan and within a couple of hours his marimbaphone was standing in our living room.  I watched my Dad play it several times and decided to ask him if I could play it too.  He was as excited as I was that I was asking to play this instrument.  So for several weeks he taught me some simple tunes.  Then one day he said, I think you are ready to play for parties, would you like that?  "Oh Yes!" Came my reply.  And that is what I did until my Uncle Delbert called to say he was ready to come and get his marimbaphone back. So much has happened the last couple of days that is important. So I guess I will begin with the one that is in my heart above all the others. I received this text message from my cousin, Pamela, late this afternoon: “ Dad died peacefully this afternoon. He received a blessing of love from his bishop last week and a visit of love from a former bishop this afternoon. It has been a reverent experience. Funeral Friday. “ This is my reply: “Thank you so very much for letting us know about Uncle John's passing. I'm glad we got to see him a few weeks ago and I'm also happy that he is now peaceful and happy. We are planning on coming down. Jerusha is going to bring us. Love you tons. BLESSED WITH HAPPY ENDINGS

TODAY'S STORY IS ABOUT HAPPY ENDINGS.  Here we see the happy ending to our whole day spent in the ER at the Brigham City Hospital.  I, Grandma Rosalie received a call early in the morning saying that Wendell had been taken there because he passed out sitting at the breakfast table.  Chris quickly took me there and we watched and prayed all day while they did all the tests they could give to determine the cause.  At one point I called our neighbor, Brother Peck to come and help Chris give Wendell a blessing.  Even though he was leaving in an hour to go out of town he came.  The blessing that Chris gave after Brother Peck anointed was a beautiful one of recovery.  I was surprised, but relieved.  And it seemed to me that it was soon after the blessing that he looked and responded to directions better.   After he was discharged with the diagnosis that they didn't know the cause, but to keep close checks on him. We headed for The gables....
